Course summary
Grow your counselling experience and specialise as an effective counsellor for children and young people.
If you are a qualified counsellor with at least 2 years counselling experience, this course will allow you to work with children and young people in different therapeutic environments, in ethical and effective ways. We will train you in the theory, process and skills required by the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).
Course overview
This is a part time course that will help you to gain theoretical and practical experience of working with children and young people aged between 11 and 18 years. The theoretical basis of the course is humanistic-integrative, with equal weight given to the study of theory, developing the skills practice of working with children and young people and the exploration of your personal development. Our academic staff draw on a 30 year tradition of counsellor training at York St John University. We are experienced practitioners, trainers and active researchers. We actively adopt an anti-racist, anti-homophobic, anti-sexist approach in all of our teaching.
After your first term we will expect you to have secured a suitable placement. You will need to complete a total of 50 hours of supervised practice by the end of the course. Students can also achieve PGDip award.
