The programme offers an interdisciplinary approach to knowledge and research in arts and mental health, with a particular emphasis on theatre and performance. This innovative and unique MSc is for you if you are a recent graduate from any arts discipline or from a mental health related field (psychology, health sciences, social sciences and related areas), as well as professionals working in the fields of applied arts practice, mental health, education, social work and related areas. Examine mental health theory and practice through a critical approach which establishes the central role of the arts in mental health. Study the history, theory and practice of the arts for mental health promotion, the representation of mental health in the arts, and arts intervention for the prevention and treatment of mental distress (with a focus on theatre and performance).AssessmentYour work will be assessed through:essayspresentationsproject plansproject reportsportfolios of documentation.TeachingYou will learn through a mixture of specialist lectures delivered by academics, clinicians and artists, seminars and group work, practice-based workshops and field visits.
