Course summary
Overview
There has never been a better time to start a business in the UK creative industries.
Do you have an idea for a creative industries start-up, such as an innovative app? Or do you want to kick-start a creative collective? Or ‘simply’ take your consultancy agency from your living room to the next level? Then our MA courses in Creative Communications Entrepreneurship might be for you.
This postgraduate course has been developed to complement the incubation and acceleration of a business in the creative communications sector, such as advertising, graphic design, games design, media and publishing. You will cover market research and analysis, the application of knowledge in entrepreneurship, governance and operations, plus innovation management and negotiation.
From day one, you will have the opportunity to start building networks and interact with experienced industry professionals, which will help you develop the key attributes of a successful professional, such as independence, entrepreneurship and negotiation skills.
Course detail
If you consider yourself to be creative, then you already have one of the essential traits of a successful entrepreneur. Your creativity may help you with building a business plan and solving unique problems, but you will also need to think about how to get new clients, how to maintain creativity in business, engagement via social media and much more.
Our MA Creative Communications Entrepreneurship course will give you:
- the opportunity to develop your start-up idea into an industry-aligned business within the creative industries
- the chance to collaborate with a range of industry partners
- the opportunity to establish a network of industry connections
- valuable peer relationships
- entrepreneurial skills.
The first term focuses on your development of essential entrepreneurship know-how and your engagement with both real-world best and worst practice cases to learn for your own business and refine your start-up idea. You will get opportunities to network with other entrepreneurs and established industry practitioners, and attend specialist workshops that you can tailor around your specific start-up needs.
The second term is dedicated to incubating your start-up idea and providing you with the chance to apply the knowledge gained throughout the course to develop a robust business plan. Your final project, in the third term, will be used to launch your creative initiative, which could be anything from starting a design agency or launching an app prototype to securing funding for your brand.
Study & career progression
This course is designed for early-career professionals in the creative and cultural industries or in small- or medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). It is extremely attractive to entrepreneurial undergraduates and professionals who have studied or are working in an area of creative practice - whether that is a creative communications collective, a new design brand, or a start-up with a product that enhances society through a creative communications initiative.
All students will join us with a specific creative industries business idea in mind. Throughout the course, we will incubate - and to some degree also accelerate - your start-up idea and help you develop concepts so that you are ready to pursue your goal after graduation.
Once you complete the course, you could go on to:
- launch your own business
- get funding for your own business and/or
- use your entrepreneurial skills (and postgraduate degree) to find a role in a creative innovation organisation.
