Course summary

The MASc in Creative Health will create a new generation of socially engaged scholars and practitioners to meet the needs of a changing health, social care and voluntary third sector, where personalised care, health inequity and the patient experience are mainstreamed into public health. This programme is the first of its kind in the world, both in terms of the qualification (Masters in Arts & Sciences) and the academic field of study (Creative Health).

Upon successful completion of the MASc in Creative Health students will acquire a range of subject-specific knowledge, including: an awareness of the scope of creative health research, policy and practice (e.g. social prescribing); have a good understanding of the social and cultural determinants of health; and be able to apply a range of methods for evaluating creative health interventions.

Careers

This is a brand new qualification and programme, and as such there are no Alumni but we anticipate that graduates will be well placed to take up a position within health or social care, the arts, cultural and creative sectors, and community, local government, NGO, voluntary and third sectors. Creative Health is also a growing area of research so we anticipate that graduates may enter PhD opportunities in related fields.

Employability

The programme is designed to teach students how to connect scholarship with professional practice and policy in the fields of creative health (also known as arts and health), social prescribing and community-based approaches to public health. The programme will provide interdisciplinary perspectives on creative health. The modules draw on different approaches to assessing skills and knowledge so that students can develop a diverse set of skills needed for working in creative health. These include: presenting, team working, applying theory to practice, translating research into policy and practice, project management and planning, policy analysis, time management and critical thinking.
