Course summary
During this course, you will study the fundamental structures and theoretical principles of English and language in general, and use them to understand and analyse spoken and written English discourse in context. This may include investigating sounds, word meanings, sentence structures, discourse analytical principles, child language acquisition, and language variation and change. The Creative Writing course gives you the opportunity to develop the skills and techniques to become a creative writer in poetry, drama and fiction (flashes, short stories, novels), and also to write critically. You will learn how your own work fits into the wider world of literature and contemporary publishing. In addition, the study and practice of Creative Writing enables you to develop a number of transferable skills that are highly relevant to many different areas of employment. Teaching takes place at the Parkgate Road Campus.
