Course summary

Course Overview

This course offers an exciting opportunity for you to pursue an independent writing project in your chosen literary form. Your development as a writer will be supported by a specialist tutor, who will facilitate a combination of group workshops and personal supervision.

This course will suit you if you have a clear and well developed idea for a longer project which you are ready to commit to for the duration of you course. This could be a novel, a collection of short stories, poems or flash fictions, a memoir or a script. It also gives you the opportunity to gain personalised support from a group of writers as they sustain work on a single project.

If you are more interested in learning a variety of forms and genres, then the Creative Writing MA (modular) is likely to be more suited to your needs.

You will also complete the Research Training and Professional Practice in Creative Writing module across the first two terms of your course alongside students enrolled on the MA in Creative Writing (modular) and students on combined programmes. Previously, as part of this module a number of professional writers and industry professionals have visited the module throughout the academic year giving talks in their specialist genres, hosting workshops to stimulate new work or providing insight and advice in areas of prose fiction, poetry, creative non-fiction and other literary forms.

You will be working towards the submission of a creative project of up to 30000 words (or script and poetry equivalent) and a reflective essay of up to 5000 words.
