Course summary

Overview

On our Criminology degree you will tackle some of the most fundamental questions behind what makes an act or action a crime.

You will look at:

  • historical and modern patterns of crime
  • how perspectives of crime have changed over time
  • contemporary criminal justice
  • crime policy
  • anti-social behaviour and disorder.

The course will include a mix of theory and practical work. You’ll explore criminology from three main perspectives:

  • crime and history
  • criminological theory
  • criminal justice policy and processes.

You will have the chance to apply your learning in a practical setting through our work based module.

To ensure the course remains relevant to the practice of criminology and provides insight into professional careers, we maintain partnerships with:

  • the Thames Valley Police
  • relevant NGOs
  • HM Prison service
  • legal professionals.
