This course in criminology, policing and forensics combines work-based learning with an understanding of criminal motivation, the gathering of scientific evidence and the workings of the criminal justice and penal systems, both in the UK and abroad.You will also have the opportunity to gain valuable experience in a criminal justice-related role.This is an exciting course that covers criminology theory as well as practical skills.Modules dedicated to work or volunteering in criminal justice organisations and allied fields are an essential part of this course. These are crucial for developing the skills and experience that can help you to find relevant employment once you graduate. Areas you could work in during these modules include:- youth offending- victim support- crime prevention- witness support- various policing support roles, including as a special constable.As well as enhancing employability, this practical experience will help you to absorb what you study and understand how it applies in the real world.This criminology and policing course will also cover the gathering of scientific evidence. You will have access to our crime scene rooms and laboratory, where you will have the chance to develop core skills in forensics.Our teaching strategy puts you at the centre of the learning process. You will learn through a variety of teaching methods designed to suit different learning styles and goals. Throughout the course, we will use well-structured activities to make sure your experience is engaging.Finally, you may also be able to travel to the United States of America to visit criminal justice institutions and agencies, further enhancing your learning experience.The foundation year course is designed to equip you with the skills and knowledge you need to continue onto your Honours degree. You will study a range of subjects that will underpin your future study and also gain valuable experience of university life, with full access to campus facilities. Successful completion of the year allows you to progress straight onto Level 4 of this course.
