Interrogate the fascinating, dynamic world of cyber security in this applied course.- Develop essential skills in cyber security and computer forensics.- Design systems and procedures that mitigate cyber threats to enterprise IT systems.- Build the knowledge, analytical mindset and problem-solving skills you need to launch a career in the cyber security sector.As businesses and the public sector increasingly generate and rely on data to function in today’s interconnected digital economy, they need effective IT security strategies, and strong cyber security professionals who can enhance cyber resilience,help prevent cyber attacks and mitigate the economic impact of cybercrime.This applied cyber security course aims to equip you with the knowledge, technical competencies and out-of-the-box thinking skills needed to meet the cyber security demands and challenges of the information age. Adopting a holistic approach to the field, you’ll engage the systems, policies, sources of cyber intelligence, response strategies and investigative techniques required to counter the expanding scope and complexity of today’s cyber threat landscape.This course approaches cyber security from a holistic point of view - helping you to understand cyber security from multiple perspectives. By highlighting key principles such as ‘defence in depth’ and by drawing on national level cyber frameworks and guidelines, we aim to expose you to a complete picture of the intentions, motivations, scope and current state-of-play of the cyber security sector.Across the course, you’ll develop knowledge and practical skills that support the protection of systems and data on a variety of levels (such as individual, business, critical national infrastructure) – all supported by a sound understanding of computing principles. You’ll engage not only the technical competencies needed to uphold and enhance organisational resilience, but also learn the essentials of effective cyber security operations. Across the course you'll explore planning methods and tools, study cyber security policies and law, investigate strategies of defence and offence, and gain an appreciation for human factors and training needs.**About the Profession Placement Year**This placement year provides you with the opportunity to identify, apply for, and secure professional experience, normally comprising one to three placements over a minimum of nine months. Successful completion of this module will demonstrate your ability to secure and sustain graduate-level employment. Before your Professional Placement Year, you'll work to secure your placement, constructing a development plan with your module leader and your placement coordinator from our Careers and Employability team. On your return to University for your final year, you'll submit your Placement Portfolio, detailing your development on your placement.
