Introduction

This course will prepare you for a career in cyber security by providing you with an in-depth grounding in the multi-disciplinary discipline of cyber security management. It has been carefully designed to maximise your potential and prepare you to take up the many rewarding opportunities in the field of cyber security. You will be taught fundamental concepts as they relate to cyber security in technology, psychology, business, law and management. This will give you a clear understanding of the constantly evolving threat landscape and you will also gain the skills to build and manage secure systems. Furthermore, you will be equipped to apply the skills you have gained strategically within an organisation. You will be taught by experts in their field, each bringing their unique skills, knowledge and experience to this exciting programme of study.

Course details

On this course you will be taught by a range of staff with relevant expertise and knowledge appropriate to the content of the unit. This will include senior academic staff, qualified professional practitioners, demonstrators, technicians and research students. You will also benefit from regular guest lectures from industry.

Placements

A placement year is a vital part in developing well-rounded and industry-ready graduates. The experience that you will gain is invaluable in helping to make informed decisions about your future career path, as well as enhancing employment prospects upon graduation. During the placement year you will have the chance to develop your interpersonal skills and build on the theory and knowledge you have gained so far.

The modern focus on computing and IT means that cyber security is a growing priority for organisations of every size, while the likes of government agencies, NGOs, police authorities and defence organisations are placing increasing importance on cyber security. This course is designed to provide the cyber security specialists of the future, filling a skills gap in the IT sector.

So this course at BU really prepares you for work in this ever-changing sector. You will have the opportunity to make connections in the industry through work placements and your skills will be highly sought after once you graduate. Within six months of completing their course, 92% of our students who study Computer Science courses are working or studying.
