Course summary

This is a degree that uses sociological understanding to enable you to understand and critique how society is delivering people's basic needs through social policy. We will examine policies on resource sharing (the welfare system), somewhere to live (housing policies), health promotion, and ensuring justice. The School of Social Sciences offers a friendly and informal environment and encourages you to develop your own interests.

A degree in Sociology and Social Policy will prepare you excellently for a career in a wide range of fields. These include: Probation, Police, Learning, Research, Social Work, Civil Service, Media, Central and Local Government, Law Courts and Voluntary Organizations. Employers today need analytical and lateral thinkers who can play a part in almost any working environment. As a result, the breadth and flexibility of a social science degree makes it attractive to almost any employer. Our graduates have followed a wide range of career paths.
