Course summary

Many students find studying a joint honors program worthwhile as they can see the similarities and differences between the two subjects. By combining Welsh and Education, you will gain a range of transferable skills and knowledge that will be beneficial for your future.

WELSH

The Welsh course is relevant to contemporary Wales and is taught by a School that is recognized for the quality and impact of its research. The course aims to produce graduates with a thorough understanding (both academic and practical) of the Welsh language, its literature and culture, a high level of oral and written language skills, and well-developed employability and creative skills. relevant to modern Wales.

It offers core and optional modules to give you a grounding in language and literature, as well as an opportunity to specialize in areas of personal or career interest.

EDUCATION

Our teaching on Education is based on our education research and the latest policy and practice developments, covering aspects of culture and identity, childhood and youth, gender and ethnicity, and social justice and inclusion.

Core modules are aimed at developing a deep understanding of the social, historical, political, economic and developmental contexts of education - in Wales, the United Kingdom and internationally.

As a joint honors student, you will find that there are often areas and perspectives that link topics, be it critical analysis, historical contexts or recent research.

The two schools involved in delivering this degree offer a challenging course of modules, supported by a friendly atmosphere and excellent student-staff relationships.

Career prospects

School of Welsh

Due to the demand for Welsh speakers, a degree in Welsh provides an invaluable qualification for posts requiring bilingual personnel. Many of our graduates are now pursuing careers in law, politics, media, performing arts, administration and education, or studying at postgraduate level.

In 2016/17, 91% of School of Welsh graduates available for work said they were in employment and / or further study within six months of graduating.

School of Social Sciences

Practical application of theory, and providing experience of the world of work, are important aspects of preparing our graduates for life outside education.

We encourage our students to think about life beyond the University from day one, offering modules and support to give you a competitive edge when you graduate.
