Course summary

Immerse yourself in the literature, and poetry of Wales while learning about the social, cultural, and political history of the language on our Cymraeg (first language) BA programme. You will study a wide range of literature including plays, short stories, and novels, as well as poetry from the medieval bardic tradition to modern protest songs. You will develop a keen understanding of Welsh language and grammar, linguistics, language planning policy, and learn valuable translation skills. Throughout your studies, you will develop excellent research and analytical skills and learn to present your ideas effectively both verbally and in writing.Our flexible degree structure with a range of optional modules gives you plenty of scope to tailor your studies to your particular interests, career goals, or ambitions for postgraduate study. We place great importance on helping you to develop the professional skills valued by employers and you will have work placements as part of your studies in your second and third years. We also arrange a variety of paid work placements, as well as voluntary placements.A first language Welsh degree opens up a wide range of career opportunities, in fields such as marketing, media, politics, language planning, business, youth work, education, translation, and administration.
