Course summary

This MSc programme lies within an area of growing technological change and provides advanced skills and knowledge.

Students are equipped with knowledge of the current state of the industry. There is also an emphasis on skills for lifelong learning so that students will be able to update their skills throughout their careers.

What you will learn

This MSc provides significant technical content which will develop students’ skills in the Data Science area.

In recent years, major organisations have made significant investments into data warehousing and data mining technologies which are now at the forefront of business intelligence.

The price of the technology has also reduced significantly since the inception of data warehousing, allowing smaller organisations to gain a competitive advantage by utilising the large pool of transactional data that in some cases has been stored for many years.

This is an area of huge job growth, with a need for a large number of people with the skills to apply and manage the technology.

You will learn to use databases and analytical tools to identify trends, patterns and correlations in data. You will also learn how to present and visualise your findings for specialist and non-specialist audiences.

Career Opportunities

Students on this programme develop a broad range of technical skills and will study a number of topics related to information systems.

The programme covers the three themes of Data Management, User Experience and Web Technologies in the computing sector.

A significant emphasis is placed on data management and the implementation of applications for manipulating information including both database systems and web applications.

Additionally, graduates would be able to lead teams and manage projects.

It is expected that graduates would seek positions such as:

Project manager (within the Computing field)

Data analyst

Database administrator

Application developer

Web developer
