Informed by a deeper knowledge of data principles and practical considerations, you will gain an in-depth understanding of core data analysis techniques. Using open source data and tools such as python and SQL, tableau and KNIME, you will learn how to identify data to inform your investigation, how to pre-process data to ensure quality results, how to select appropriate analysis techniques for the task and finally how to choose methods, including visualisations, to convey the message. You will also have the opportunity to interact with industry experts to gain connections and an insight of the roles available within the field.Your experiences on this course will see you develop a strong knowledge of data and understand the importance of ethics and data governance in your approach to data science.Data is recognised as central to the strength of our economic, business and cultural life, and continues to transform the modern world. You will be primed for data science roles across diverse industries and projects. You will be taught and assessed using a range of approaches that will enable you to develop a rounded skillset including simulations, case studies, practical work and online collaborative discussion. In your third year, you will complete a year-long data science project drawing on theoretical principles to rigorously design investigations, analyse data and represent findings from data. Through considered selection of your project and client, you will be able to tailor your learning to your career aspirations. You will join a research-led academic community, and you will have access to guest lectures and industry events that will broaden your experience and knowledge of the career pathways that will be open to you.
