Course summary
Our BSc (Hons) Digital Construction and Surveying (Geospatial Mapping and Science Specialist Degree Apprenticeship Route) allows you to invest in your workforce by combining university education, work-based learning and ongoing professional development. While working as a valuable part of your team, apprentices can develop a solid understanding of the practical disciplines, principles and theories required to interpret and analyse geospatial data. The Level 6 degree apprenticeship standard for geospatial mapping and science specialist was developed by a consortium of consultants, contractors and employers from across the sector. The University of Bolton’s programme has been fully mapped to the apprenticeship standard (ST0492) and offers an excellent combination of theory and practice. Study at the University complements learning in the workplace, supporting apprentices to gain the core knowledge, skills and behaviours required to effectively interpret and analyse data related to geographic position on the earth’s surface and use leading-edge digital technology such as laser scanning, geographic information systems, remote sensing and imagery. This degree apprenticeship can support your organisation to attract the best new talent and retain valued staff through career progression. Leading to an internationally recognised honours degree, this programme of structured training supports apprentices who wish to work towards membership of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors*. By studying flexibly alongside work, your apprentices will have opportunities to put their new skills and understanding into practice without delay, building their confidence and experience, and benefitting your organisation immediately. Our expert team will support your apprentices as they undertake structured training in essential areas such as data analysis and advice for mapping, satellite navigation systems (Satnavs), global positioning systems (GPS), infrastructure, the identification of local, suburban or international boundaries, military, mining and a wide range of other purposes. We’ll guide them as they gain key skills in the interpretation, manipulation and analysis of geospatial information, gathering data and measurements using a wide range of innovative technologies and providing strategic advice and recommendations based on their analyses. With a focus on helping apprentices develop the behaviours required for occupational success, such as the ability to provide professional advice, maintain confidentiality, undertake lifelong learning and demonstrate cultural sensitivity, you can be assured that we’ll work hard to support your apprentices as they develop into competent and confident geospatial mapping and science specialists. If you’re looking for undergraduate-level training in this subject area but don’t work for an employer who is offering apprenticeships, please see our other courses for details of study opportunities that don’t require current employment.*Please note, the University is currently seeking Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors accreditation for this programme.
