Course summary

This course is equally divided 50/50 between filmmaking and screenwriting, which no other university currently offers. It provides real links to the journalistic side of Media Studies, with its practical based work linking students directly to producers. Students here will be among a wide variety of musicians, dancers, composers, scriptwriters and film makers, which will help develop skills in team work, production and filming.

Students also consider real world issues such as audience needs and effective team working whilst engaged on production activity that emulates professional practices. This may include working with actors or pitching project ideas to a panel of tutors and filmmakers. They also regularly have the opportunity to contribute to production based staff research projects and multi-camera live event filming. Students can also engage with relevant contemporary practice through annual attendance at the 'Encounters' short film festival.

The skills you will obtain in this degree are particularly well suited to work with film production companies, TV production studios, radio outlets, newspapers, PR firms and advertising agencies. Many of our graduates go on to complete Masters degrees, using their undergraduate experience as the foundation to advanced study and/or practice.
