By the end of your degree, you will have the skills to research and devise effective marketing strategies, based on a sound understanding of digital devices, platforms, media, data and technology. This understanding is underpinned by a solid marketing foundation.**How you learn**In your first year you will take modules that will give you a firm grasp of the foundations of marketing and research, as well as an introduction to the world of digital marketing. In your second year you will firmly embrace not only the strategic aspects of marketing but also a deeper understanding of digital technologies, as well as mobile and social media. This will set you apart when it comes to seeking your placement experience in industry. In your final year, you will stretch your understanding in areas such as strategic brand management and marketing innovation, whilst expanding your knowledge of the social and psychological aspects of our digital world. You will also develop a solid understanding of the more strategic aspects of digital communications.**You learn through**- lectures- seminars- problem solving exercises- case studies- self managed study- individual and group presentations**Applied learning****Work placements**You will have the opportunity to arrange a year-long work placement in between your second and third years. This is typically 48 weeks long and gives you a real-world experience to prepare you for your future career. Due to our strong relationships with regional, national and international employers, we can help you to secure a great placement opportunity and support you while you are there. Previous marketing students have gained placements at companies such as IBM, Adidas, Marks & Spencer and Disney.**Live projects**Throughout your studies you will be actively learning through exploring and evaluating real life organisations. In some of these instances, you will select the organisation yourself but in others your tutors will bring the real world into your classroom.**Networking opportunities**We are one of the few universities in the UK to have a student chapter linked to the Chartered Institute of Marketing.The Sheffield Hallam Student Marketing Society is a student learning community that complements and enhances your academic studies and allows you to link up with local professionals. They also run regular events with local and national employers.Developing personal attributes Sheffield Hallam University aims to develop your confidence, your creativity and your resilience as you progress through your studies. By the end of your studies, we will have helped you develop attributes such as enterprise, global awareness and responsible management. You will develop these attributes over the duration of your course via core and elective modules. You will have the opportunity to engage in different forms of work experience in each of your study years, ranging from a short placement through to working on live business projects.
