DTh Theology and Practice

COURSE OVERVIEW

The course begins with the module Connecting Theology, Religion and Practice, in which you combine the study of practical theology methods and approaches with two other academic areas in theology or religion, and reflect upon your own practice in the light of that study. You undertake supervised research and practical projects based on topics you are interested in, negotiated with the programme team. The outcomes of these include publishable academic writing and innovative practice in the field. You are expected to have well-developed skills in independent learning and research. There is supervision and support from tutors, however the aim of the course is to enable you to reflect on and research your own professional or ministerial interests in the context of your practice.

You are strongly encouraged to attend the Annual Study Day in Winchester, normally held in June, which allows you to meet other students on the course. The Study Day is an optional non-credit-bearing two-day residential seminar, the remainder of which is shared with other postgraduate research students in the Department of Theology, Religion and Philosophy. You are also encouraged, if your circumstances allow, to get involved in other Department and University events such as the Department’s regular research seminar programme.
