Course overview

This course will give you the skills, experience and knowledge you need to enjoy a successful career working with young children. We’ll support you every step of the way and we’ll give you the opportunity to practise your new skills and knowledge in a variety of settings so that you can make confident choices about your career. Our students graduate as knowledgeable professionals who go on to enjoy careers in schools, nurseries and hospitals and often set up their own businesses. Many also continue their training to become teachers, social workers and child psychologists.

As a society, we are more aware than ever of the importance of early childhood development and this course will give you in-demand skills and experience to succeed in several possible careers.

The course is highly practical with a placement opportunity in every year of study that gives our students lots of real hands-on experience. Small teaching groups mean that we really get to know our students and can give them the support they need to thrive. Our tutors are all very experienced in their own fields and they make sure that their lectures and seminars are accessible and relevant. There are no exams on this course and our tutors work closely with students to ensure that they achieve the required learning outcomes.


There are no exams on this course. Instead, you will be assessed by a variety of other means, including coursework, portfolio, essays, presentations, child study, curriculum planning and rationale, and dissertation. You will also be assessed on placement by your tutor and placement mentor.

Job prospects

Previous graduates have entered roles as a Teaching Assistant, Early Years Practitioner or self-employment as Nannies and Childminders.

Graduates have also progressed to further study such as Children's Nursing, Social Work, Qualified Teacher Status and Early Years Teacher Status. Some have progressed to higher level academic study in Children's Psychology and Early Childhood.
