Course summary

This BSc Economics and Business with Foundation Year degree is ideal if you are interested in studying economics with a focus on management and business. This interdisciplinary course will give you a strong understanding of economics and business while developing your ability to apply this knowledge to a range of real-world situations. The Foundation Year (Year 0) will fully prepare you for undergraduate study. This route is ideal if you are returning to study after a gap, if you have not previously studied economics, or if you did not achieve the grades you needed for a place on BSc Economics and Business. Then in Year 1 you will attain the IT, professional and quantitative skills required for the degree. Additionally, you will gain a broad understanding of introductory economics and management. In Year 2, you will take modules from a broad range of options offered by both the Department of Economics, Mathematics and Statistics and the Department of Management. Many employers require graduates who can clearly state and analyse problems while suggesting realistic strategies and solutions. This course will provide you with these essential skills and so prepare you for a range of jobs in both the private and public sectors. Upon successful completion of the Foundation Year, you will automatically progress onto our three-year, full-time, evening study BSc Economics and Business or onto one of our other Economics degrees: BSc Economics, BSc Economics and Social Policy, BSc Finance with Accounting or BSc Financial Economics. You need only complete one application and you enrol onto one course. We also offer part-time Foundation Year degrees which allow you to spread out your Foundation Year studies over two years. As the 'Foundation Year' is made up of 120 credits, as a part-time student you can take 60 credits in each of your first and second years before starting the main four-year BSc Economics and Business or one of the other degrees listed above. This means that you can take six years to complete the part-time degree with Foundation Year.**Highlights**- The Department of Economics, Mathematics and Statistics brings together research and teaching in economics, finance, mathematics and statistics in a single department which creates significant interdisciplinary synergies.- We have an excellent reputation for the quality of our teaching, providing training for employers such as the Treasury and the Bank of England.- You will be taught by academics who are professional practitioners in the world of economics and international finance, and who provide specialist advice and in-house training for government departments and City firms and banks.- The research of our academics, many of whom are recognised as world-class experts in their fields, feeds directly into our teaching.
