Course summary

Course Details

Explore the impact finance and the economy have on the world around you. From global events such as the 2007 credit crunch to the closure of our favourite high street stores, you will discover how financial decisions made by individuals and businesses affect consumers, workers, industry, commerce and government. You will gain a thorough understanding of financial markets and the structure of business organisations, as well as developing valuable analytical skills in finance and economics.

This course offers the opportunity to take a 'sandwich' year - a year of paid employment in industry which will build your skills and experience. This is usually taken between the second and third year of your degree, typically making your course four years in total. Students who choose the sandwich route find it helps with both their studies and getting a job after graduation. It can build your confidence, contacts, and of course your CV. Leeds Beckett advertise lots of placement opportunities and provide support in helping you find the right placement for you.

Course Benefits

Our strong links with industry, including connections with Yorkshire Bank, Lloyds, TSB and experts from the city of London, will open up a variety of placement opportunities and help give you a head start in the employment market. Previous students have completed work experience with Redmayne-Bentley, Price Waterhouse Cooper and a number of high street banks.

At Leeds Business School we're dedicated to supporting your professional development, and offer a guest lecture programme to all our students. Past speakers include the CEO of the London Stock Exchange, Shadow Chief Secretary to the Treasury, past Chair and President of the Academy of Marketing, Chief Executive of the British Bankers Association, the Chief Economist of Yorkshire Bank and the Editor of Cosmopolitan.

Job Prospects

This course will open doors to a wide variety of stimulating and financially rewarding occupations. Your specialist knowledge and global outlook could see you working in stockbroking, business or financial management, investment banking or accountancy. Alternatively, you could continue your studies on one of our postgraduate courses.
