You’ll cover the performance of different economies worldwide, a broad range of microeconomic and macroeconomic issues, quantitative methods, computing techniques and business performance concepts. Including a foundation year as part of your four-year study programme will give you a head start in your academic and professional life. The foundation year offers the chance to strengthen your skills, knowledge and confidence – with extensive support from our expert staff - before you advance to stage one of your honours degree. It could also be beneficial if you are planning a career change and want to get to grips with aspects of subjects which are new to you. Our degrees with a foundation year are continuous, meaning that you won’t need to apply again once you have successfully completed the first year.
How you will learn
BSc (Hons) Economics and Finance features strong engagement with employers and live practical projects with businesses. We’re proud to work in partnership with Bloomberg to provide you with learning resources at the cutting edge of economics. You’ll gain hands-on experience in our Financial Markets Lab and can bulk up your CV with the Bloomberg Market Concepts Certificate.
Opportunities and experiences
Opportunities range from three-month summer internships and year-long placements to short fieldtrips abroad and the option to spend part of your course studying with one of our international partners. Through our exciting programme of guest lectures, masterclasses and networking events, you’ll interact with economic experts and senior finance professionals.

This course is accredited by leading professional bodies the Chartered Management Institute (CMI), and the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), meaning the course is mapped against the skills employers are looking for and provides you with additional awards and/or exemptions towards professional body memberships.
