Course summary
Economics Diploma has been designed for those with a background in economics.
Course Overview
Our Diploma is aimed at students without a background in economics but with some background knowledge in mathematics and statistics at A level equivalent to the English Advanced Level, and will provide training in the core components of modern economic analysis and appropriate quantitative methods. You will acquire the ability to analyse economic problems, both empirically and theoretically, developing knowledge of economic trends, institutions and policy.
Teaching
Teaching is mainly carried out through lectures and seminars, with an average of 8-10 hours of lectures and 3-5 hours of seminars per week, plus several short tests, exercises and essays per term.
You will be expected to undertake your own independent study for an average of 17 hours per term-time week.
There are a range of facilities available both on and off campus to help you further your own research and learning and become an independent, active learner.
We encourage one-to-one interaction with our world-leading academics and offer great flexibility in the optional modules that allow you to specialise or diversify your studies.
Your learning will benefit from a range of teachers from different backgrounds. Some may be intensely engaged in research, others may be professionally active within your discipline and some are postgraduate researchers in your field, who will have recent experience of studying in similar ways to what you will experience.
Assessment
For Diploma students, assessment is through formal examinations and coursework.
Feedback is a vital part of the assessment process, as it helps you to reach your full potential by identifying the strengths and weaknesses of your work and the actions needed to develop your understanding and enhance your performance.
Feedback is provided in a variety of ways, including: grades and comments on marked work, solutions to problem sets, verbal feedback from tutors and peers in Support and Feedback Classes, Advice and Feedback hours with academic staff, and personal tutor meetings.
