Course summary

Foundation Entry degree courses are designed for students who have the ability to study for a degree, but don’t have the necessary formal qualifications to enter directly onto their chosen Honours degree programme. Are you looking to develop your understanding and knowledge of educational theories, policies and practice, and apply these to past and present educational issues? This degree looks at the influences on the development of the education system, the curriculum, and learners with disabilities. In addition to studying the core social theories and research methodologies, you will explore and debate a range of sociological themes. You’ll gain comprehensive knowledge of these two disciplines and will develop a range of skills and practical experience which will enable you to pursue either educational or sociological study at a higher level, so that you can then develop your career in either in an educational field. You will get the opportunity to undertake a placement in an educational setting at each stage of the degree. There are also opportunities to progress with your studies and undertake post graduate study and research in this area. Graduates follow careers in areas such as: primary/ secondary school or further education teaching following a PGCE or other postgraduate teacher training; teaching support roles; Working with children and families; youth work; police work; community work; equality and diversity specialist; researcher; and local government.
