Course summary

Education in the UK and overseas is constantly changing. This makes it a fascinating field of study, with varied opportunities for employment when you graduate. The course examines a range of contemporary UK and international education systems with a specific focus on education as a business. It will build your awareness of business enterprise when it comes to education for both individuals and organisations, as you will consider approaches to management, organisational culture and behaviour, and marketing. Why Education? Emphasis on this course is placed on the political, social, technological and economic context of education, presenting theories related to these aspects so that you can critically understand education systems across the world. The course addresses the fast-changing educational environment, giving you the skills to make you responsive to those changes within a variety of educational settings. While you’re here, you’ll be able to take an optional work placement in your second year of study. It could be the ideal way to develop the skills that employers are looking for and gain useful contacts in the industry, whether this be in a teaching, administration or business role. You’ll have opportunity to make national and international comparisons, and analyse and solve problems related to education in a global context. In your final year, you will also have the chance to undertake an investigative project that will develop and enhance an educational organisation. If you’re looking to work alongside children, young people and adults to support their future development and engagement, then studying with us could be your perfect choice. You’ll gain an awareness of the ethical practices used in education, and will understand the importance of legislation and policy by studying key principles including safeguarding and child protection issues, procedures and law. Our professional networks help give you access to a wide range of high quality placement opportunities, expert guest lectures and visits during your studies. It’s this practical focus, coupled with the latest research findings being developed both within the School of Education and Professional Development and the wider academic community, which helps to ensure our students are able to equip themselves with the most relevant knowledge and skills needed within the workplace. ~ Dr Andrew Youde, Head of Department for Education. Additional costs: * Your placements could be in Huddersfield or surrounding areas, so please consider any travelling costs you may incur. * A Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check is required to enable you to undertake placements in settings with children. We arrange this as part of the application process. Please note that there may be a charge for the DBS check.
