Course summary

Teachers lead busy lives – that’s why we’ve designed this flexible MA to fit your schedule. On the course, you’ll attend monthly twilight sessions over two years.

You’ll learn from supportive teacher-researchers and benefit from the expertise in our Centre for Teaching and Learning Research: Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND), social justice and gender in education settings, policy and practice addressing inclusion, diversity and the awarding gap of pupils facing deprivation.

You’ll explore child-friendly research methods such as drama, art, observation and interviews, and bring what you’ve learned to your final research project. This may result in outcomes that: can be applied in the classroom to develop your practice, build your professional confidence, boost your promotion prospects. In the spirit of flexibility, you’ll have the opportunity to tailor your learning and research to what interests you most. Also, if you have existing Masters-level credits, you may have the option to bring them to this course.

As a graduate, you’ll return to the classroom confident and resilient, with a new and improved teaching toolkit. You’ll have the skills – research and analysis, communication, critical reflection and teaching practice – to lead changes within schools. If you’re interested in developing your teaching practice, you can apply your knowledge in the classroom, and enhance your pupil wellbeing and outcome. If you’re interested in management and leadership roles, you’re prepared for ongoing professional development and career progression. The degree fits well with the National Professional Qualification for Headship (NPQH).
