OVERVIEW

Explore and understand the conversation around what is effective education. Critique theories of leadership and management, and how they relate to your working environment. Develop the skills to pursue a leadership role in a school.

On our part-time masters course you’ll explore leadership and management roles in education, and understand their potential to transform practice.

It’s designed for professionals working across the field of education, from teachers in schools to those in community settings. We aim to develop your leadership and management skills to help you become an educational leader.

You’ll explore ways of leading and visioning, and critique the role that a leader plays in the school environment.

You’ll study theories of leadership and management, such as the different ways of knowing about leadership, and instrumental theory. You’ll also analyse current models relating to leading change, and consider methods of managing people and resources.

Some of the topics you’ll consider include the growth mind-set, the contribution of educational leadership to global equality, ethical leadership, and the impact of leadership on organisational effectiveness.

CAREER PROSPECTS

You might choose to complete this masters degree to support your current management or leadership role in education, or to move into a more senior role.

Through this course, you’ll develop a clear understanding of the role a leader plays in education and define your vision as a leader.

You’ll gain the knowledge to help you pursue a career in a leadership position in a school, such as a deputy headship or headship.

You could also continue with further study and begin a PhD. Students will also achieve PgCert and PgDip awards during this course.
