This course covers the following key subject areas:
electrical machines
power electronics
electric drives
power system operation
control of electrical power
A feature of the course is the design of electrical systems for transportation and renewable energy applications. This is a particular specialism of our researchers in the School of Engineering.
You will develop knowledge of industry-standard computer-aided design and analysis techniques. You'll gain a practical understanding of software packages such as:
MagNet
MATLAB
Simulink
PSpice
ERACS
Your development
You will research a specialist topic of your choice through an in-depth project. Innovative educational techniques will equip you with practical design skills and research methodologies.
On graduating, you will have the knowledge and practical experience ready for a career in electrical power engineering. Your learning and research skills will also provide a solid foundation for further study.
