Course summary
Designed to meet the Engineering Council UK-SPEC standard, the course covers the fundamental principles and programming skills required in electronic engineering, providing a solid foundation to start professional work in electronic design, control systems, communication systems and software engineering.You’ll study in our state-of-the-art £50m Engineering and Computing building, with access to our well-equipped microelectronics laboratory, power laboratory and dedicated project laboratory.We enjoy high level of student satisfaction on this course and students regularly praise the enthusiasm of our lecturers. You’ll be taught by staff with extensive research backgrounds in areas including: photovoltaics; semiconductor devices modelling, simulation, design and fabrication; electromagnetics; iron core saturation; control theory and applications; wireless sensors; and embedded microelectronics. This informs your teaching, keeping you abreast of new developments and issues, whilst providing opportunities to partner staff on research projects.**Key Course Benefits*** Meets the full academic requirements for Incorporated Engineer (IEng) registration.* Regular expert guest lectures, which previously have covered topics such as the National Grid in areas of power distribution.* Collaborative links with universities in 20 countries around the world providing study exchange opportunities (additional costs may apply).* Our four specialist Faculty Research Centres have a strong portfolio of world-leading research in wireless sensors, pervasive computing, distributed computer systems, digital forensics, computer security, serious games, virtual reality, aerodynamics and electrical energy.* Study in our state-of-the-art £50m Engineering and Computing building, with access to extensive cutting-edge facilities in our High Performance Engineering Centre, which houses a 20% scale model wind tunnel (designed and built by the Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 team), composites lab, metrology lab, four-pot shaker rig, flow lab, AVL engine test cell, automotive workshop, fatigue and tensile testing (Instron), a full size Harrier Jet, three further simulators, civil engineering specialist testing equipment, a range of CNC machinery and a laser workshop.
