Course summary

Surrey is one of the UK's leading universities for electrical and electronic engineering, with our courses ranked 3rd in the Guardian University Guide 2019 and top ten in The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2018.The Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering designs and builds innovative commercial satellites which are launched into orbit – having pioneered the small satellite industry nearly 40 years ago. This means that our BEng Electronic Engineering with Space Systems **(with Foundation Year)** course gives you a unique opportunity to gain knowledge and experience from academics at the frontline of space engineering. On these courses you will build a core knowledge in electronics and programming, and learn the fundamentals of space systems, satellite engineering, power and control, and space mission design. You will apply your knowledge through project work, which will give you the opportunity to work closely with academics from our Surrey Space Centre, and enable you to gain real-world practical experience of the technologies that go into space missions. Our aim is to develop engineers with a firm grounding in electronics, plus the specialist skills needed to work at the forefront of space systems engineering. We’re always looking to make it easier to access the education we offer, so we have launched the option of taking a degree with a foundation year.A foundation year is an extra year of study at the start of your course that leads in to a full degree programme. It’s a great option if:• You don’t have the grades for a full degree course• You have non-traditional qualifications or experience• You’re starting university after some time away from education• You’re looking for more support during the transition into university study.During a foundation year you’ll learn about your chosen subject, develop your study skills and get used to university life. On successful completion of your foundation year, you’ll be ready to progress to the first year of your degree course. As a foundation year student, you’ll be a full student of the University and part of our community. You’ll have access to all our campus facilities and support.
