Course summary
Middlesex University partners with Lead Partner schools to provide employment-based Initial Teacher Training (ITT). Applicants apply to the Lead Partner school directly through DfE Find and Apply. There are two routes, Lead Partner salaried and the Postgraduate Teacher Apprenticeship.
Accreditation
Successful completion of employment-based Initial Teacher Training leads to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) , allowing you to work in any state school in England.
Trainees attend a programme of training sessions at the university which are taught by phase and subject experts. The partner schools also provide training in the school setting in addition to a dedicated mentor who supports the trainees learning journey in the school setting.
The training sessions are spread throughout the year with trainees attending one day each week for most weeks.
However, during Terms 1 and 2, they will attend university for some full weeks in order to complete the statutory 4 weeks (equivalent) of Intensive Training and Practice.
During the last 6 weeks of the course, trainees will be in school full time and teaching at least an 80% timetable load.
Trainees who complete our employment-based routes are very likely to stay in the same school as an Early Career Teacher.
