Course summary

Why choose this course

At the end of 2019, there were more than 700,000 engineering businesses in the UK, worth an estimated £1.2trillion. This accounted for more than 20 per cent of all gross domestic UK turnover. So engineering is big business and managers who understand that business remain in demand.

Our MSc in Engineering Business Management uniquely combines the development of business acumen and management skills with the knowledge of industry-relevant science and technology. Jointly run by world-leading experts from Surrey Business School and our Department of Chemical and Process Engineering, it’s aimed at technical graduates and professionals who aspire to a career in engineering business management.

The course teaches students how to apply proven conceptual business frameworks from multiple disciplines to the management of engineering-driven enterprises, and prepares them for managerial roles in engineering-related sectors.

What you will study

Our unique multidisciplinary course gives you advanced knowledge of complex operational engineering processes and develops your analytical business skills, enhancing your critical thinking, problem-solving and decision-making.

This programme puts particular emphasis on management for value-adding activities, and the use of emerging technology and engineering principles to optimise efficiency, sustainability and competitiveness.

It also offers the opportunity to focus on areas in management, business, engineering and technology within a specialised industry that you find interesting – with a view to assuring sustainable economic benefit to an organisation.
