Course summary

Course overview:

This master’s course focuses on key contemporary issues and the future of advanced industrial and product design and manufacturing. The course uses the three pillars of social, ecological and economic aspects of design and manufacture to highlight design as sustainable future-forward problem-solving with real impact on society and culture.

You develop your skills in industrial design and development, prototyping and testing prototypes through simulation, advanced design principles and advanced design research methods theoretically contextualised within cradle to cradle social and economic systems. You generate innovative design solutions that explore real alternatives for the post-plastic generations, underpinned by a sound knowledge of manufacturing and production techniques, and gain a fundamental understanding of project management principles.

You can start your studies in semester 1 or semester 2. Each semester delivers a key mix of innovative design principles and practice informed by team-based approaches and student-led coaching that instils an understanding of theory within e one-year programme is a great option if you want to gain a traditional MSc / MA qualification. The two-year master’s degree with advanced practice enhances your qualification by adding a vocational or research based internship to the one-year master’s programme.A vocational internship is a great way to gain work experience and give your CV a competitive edge. A research internship provides you with the opportunity to develop your analytical, team-working, research and academic skills by working alongside a research team in an academic setting. We guarantee a research internship, but cannot guarantee a vocational internship. We will, however, provide you with practical support and advice on how to find and secure your own vocational internship position should you prefer this type of internship.
