Course summary

The Foundation Degree (FdEng) Engineering has been designed to provide a balance between industrial and academic experience. In the FdEng in Engineering course, students are supported on the development of soft transferable skills such as problem solving, creativity, curiosity, attention to details just to name a few. Moreover, the course provides a valuable opportunity for students to deepen their vocational knowledge in Engineering subjects. The programme will have 2 optional pathways: Mechanical and Electrical. Despite the different routes, students in both routes share a variety of core vocational modules such as: Engineering Mathematics, Engineering Science, Technical Drawing for Engineers, Advanced Engineering Mathematics and Project Management Principles. In addition to that, students in both routes attend generic foundation degree modules, heavily contextualised for Engineering to support their personal and professional development. By the end of the course, students that have opted for the Mechanical route will be capable of design fluid power systems, work on heat transfer problems, manage projects, simulate and design mechanical components aided by a comprehensive theoretical knowledge in mechanical science, engineering design and power transmission mechanisms. Alternatively, students that have opted for the Electrical route will be capable of developing their ability to use programming techniques, designing electrical and electronic systems, solve electrical machine problems, manage projects, simulate and design electrical components supported by a deep theoretical knowledge in electrical science, engineering design and electrical power transmission systems. The FdEng is mapped to the latest version of the Accreditation of Higher Education Programmes (AHEP) by the Engineering Council and Institute of Engineering Technologies (IET). This enables students completing the course an easy route to their professional accreditation as Incorporated Engineers. As part of our work ready guarantee, you will be provided a set of books and literature that will enhance and support your learning while in the college. Furthermore, students will be offered the opportunity of visiting local industries and events to further support their engineering career. This course has been designed for individuals with a passion for engineering and problem solving. Additionally, this course is also designed for individuals with industry experience looking into further progress in their engineering career. Upon completion of the FdEng Engineering you can progress to our BEng (Hons) Mechanical Manufacturing Engineering (Top-up); BEng (Hons) Electrical Electronic Engineering (Top-up) or BSc (Hons) Engineering Management (Top-up). This programme has also been designed to support industry
