This course helps emerging engineering leaders to build on their previous specialist skills, experiences and training to acquire the skills required to fit your company's goals.

Course outline and key facts

This course is designed for those who are currently working within a relevant engineering sector. The course starts in October each year.

The course is taught at Aston University via short periods of intensive study at intervals throughout each year.

This programme is accredited by the Chartered Management Institute and the Institute of Leadership and Management.

On completion of the MSc programme, students may be eligible to progress to End Point Assessment with an external assessor organisation against the Level 7 Senior Leader Master’s Degree Apprenticeship Standard.

Learning, teaching and assessment

The programme will be delivered using a range of methods including interactive lectures, tutorials, site visits, guest lectures and class debate.

Students will be required to attend short teaching blocks on campus. Students will complete approximately 4 modules per year, and will need to attend 2 teaching blocks per module. Each teaching block lasts 2 or 3 days, and usually takes place Friday-Sunday.

Assessment methods are chosen in relation to the particular requirements of a module. Assessment methods employed include group and individual assignments, and class participation.

Professional accreditation

By completing the course, students will also obtain the following:

  • ILM (Institute of Leadership and Management) Level 7 certificate in Leadership and Management
  • CMI (Chartered Management Institute) Level 7 diploma in Strategic Management and Leadership

The course also provides an exemption route to apply for Chartered Manager status.
