Course summary

**Why English and Creative Writing?**This flexible degree allows you to create your own blend of English language, literature and creative writing to explore the world around you and find your creative voice. The course is assessed entirely by coursework and taught in interactive, small-group seminars. You’ll also be able to participate in excursions, workshops and events, including international field trips (additional costs may apply, see course web page for details), theatre visits to London and Stratford, open mic nights and improvisation comedy workshops. You can immerse yourself in Cheltenham’s vibrant cultural life, which includes The Times and The Sunday Times Cheltenham Literature Festival and the Cheltenham Poetry Festival. You can follow your passions by focusing on writing prose, plays or poetry and publish your work in our student anthology. The English Language side of the degree explores how language shapes identities and societies and is designed to provide specific tools for your own writing. You can also take literature modules to gain a deep understanding of a range of genres including crime fiction, travel writing, postcolonial writing and modern drama. Uniquely, this course includes optional practical communication modules where you can gain leadership skills in inspirational speaking, persuasive writing, active listening, visual design and ethical argumentation. These skills will provide a foundation for life and employment.**Why University of Gloucestershire?**We’ve been using our expertise to support and inspire students since 1847.
