Course summary

For much of its history the English literary tradition has been strongly influenced by French literature, culture, and critical theory. This combination will develop your linguistic and analytical skills, your theoretical sophistication and your understanding of the ways in which different languages reflect different cultures. The study of another language and culture in this combined degree brings depth and breadth to your understanding of literature, theory and the creative arts. You will spend year three in a country where your chosen language is spoken and will write a dissertation on a topic of your choice in either subject in your final year. We offer a wide range of options, offering full coverage of English literary history and choices in world literature, creative writing and film.
