ENGLISH LITERATURE

If you have a passion for reading books and for thinking about the ideas they engage with and the debates they inspire, then you will enjoy studying English Literature with us. Our modules encompass a wide range of authors and genres, from well-known figures to marginalized voices and texts, ripe for re-discovery. You’ll learn to analyse and write about works of literature in their cultural and historical contexts, through lectures, seminars, workshops, and tutorials, here in Canterbury, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

You will explore areas including:

  • modern and contemporary literature

  • the Brontës, Dickens and other Victorian writers

  • the works and literary afterlives of Austen, Shelley and other Romantic authors

  • Shakespeare, Marlowe and their contemporaries on the page and in performance

  • Chaucer and the literature of the Middle Ages

  • women’s writing

  • black and minority ethnic literature

TOURISM STUDIES

The tourism industry supports over 260 million jobs worldwide and offers a multitude of exciting opportunities for graduates.

You will gain specialist knowledge in tourism from experienced staff who are passionate about their teaching and research. Lectures and seminars are supported by a wealth of industry speakers, site visits and an international field trip. During your time with us, you will be offered work experience/ internships and be able to take advantage of our exciting Tourism and Events Research Hub, which has a reputation for winning successful research grants.

Whatever degree you choose to study within Tourism, Events and Hospitality, you will enjoy a fun and stimulating field trip abroad in year one, already included in your fees.
