Course summary

This English with Film Studies BA gives you the chance to study literary texts and films from across the world and with a broad historical perspective. You could study English literature written in the US, Anglophone Africa, Ireland, and South Asia, as well as within the UK, looking at texts that date as far back as 1380 to the present day. You’ll also explore film studies with modules that cover popular Hollywood, European, and Asian films, underground and cult cinemas, documentary and new media, and film and media philosophy, amongst much more. Your location in the heart of London means you can also explore the capital’s literary and visual history while making the most of your proximity to organisations like the British Film Institute (BFI) and Shakespeare’s Globe. This English with Film Studies BA is an interdepartmental course that offers an open and imaginative approach to the study of literary texts and films. You’ll get to cover a wide range of subjects, from contemporary poetry to medieval performance and creative writing, and you’ll develop cutting-edge knowledge with teaching that is up-to-date with the latest developments in both disciplines. You’ll learn from a range of academics, including award-winning novelists, poets, essayists, biographers, non-fiction authors, filmmakers, and literary and film critics.
