Course summary

Are you over 21 and interested in a career in nursing, but lack the Level 3 formal qualifications to apply for a nursing degree?

A career in nursing is very rewarding. We are passionate about making sure education is accessible for everyone and want to help you reach your goals.

We know the thought of studying at university can be daunting, especially if it's been a while since you last studied. Or perhaps you studied recently but don’t have the standard course entry requirements? This course will refresh your learning skills and build your self-confidence.

If you don't meet the entry requirements for your chosen course, there are two options:

Return to Study

By completing this programme, you may be eligible for entry into Year 1 of professional health and social care programmes, including nursing. It may also qualify you to study a course with an integrated foundation year. You must complete the Return to Study programme and meet the DBS and occupational health requirements to proceed.

Courses with a foundation year

Completing a foundation year can provide entry into Year 1 of our nursing programmes, as long as you complete the foundation year at the required level. Like the Return to Study option, you'll need to meet the DBS and occupational health requirements to proceed.

If you need support to put in an application for degree study, this programme will help you develop the knowledge and skills. We will break down the barriers and introduce you to:

Academic writing

Research skills

Presentation skills

This programme is for those over 21 with work experience in health care. You may not currently have the entry qualifications but you will show the qualities and skills required.

Our part time Return to Study Entry Programme runs over six-weeks. You'll get a taster of university study through a combination of online sessions as well as self-guided study. Sessions run on Wednesdays 6pm - 8pm and Saturdays 10am - 2pm via online delivery.

During the course you will be able to apply to study one of the different nursing pathways at UCLan across all three UK campuses. Depending on your start date, these courses will include:

BSc (Hons) Nursing (Adult)

BSc (Hons) Nursing (Adult) - Practice Based Pathway

BSc (Hons) Nursing (Children and Young People)

BSc (Hons) Nursing (Mental Health)

BSc (Hons) Nursing (Learning Disabilities)

You may also wish to apply for the FdA Health and Social Care (with Foundation Year). Alternatively you may consider our FdA Health and Social Care.
