The European Studies: Modern European Studies MA is an interdisciplinary course that explores integration, competing nation states, governance and more. Taught at the UCL Centre for Multidisciplinary and Intercultural Inquiry (CMII), you’ll be equipped to explore a range of future career options.

The European Studies: Modern European Studies MA, focuses on the emergence of modern Europe, the political implications of integration, and its transition from competing nation states and forms of governance to an expanding political and economic union.

This course comprises of two compulsory modules, which are designed to work as a postgraduate-level foundation and provide you with the specific skills and knowledge to research, write academic essays and the dissertation.

These core modules will deepen your understanding of modern European society. Helping you identify areas of interest for further study and to engage critically with key historical and social concepts.

You will also have the opportunity to choose from a range of optional modules and complete a dissertation. These modules explore diverse topics within cultural studies, and will broaden your understanding of modern Europe from political, historical, literary and social perspectives. Optional modules may be national, regional or European in scope.
