Course summary
The course is designed to develop the skills you will need to become an independent and critical learner while developing your knowledge of the global events industry. These, along with the extensive links we have forged with the industry, will enable you to succeed as a graduate in the professional world of events. We cover a wide range of event areas and business disciplines, allowing you the opportunity to specialise in specific sectors of the industry selected by you. Throughout the course there are also numerous opportunities to engage with industry through field trips, live event projects, guest speakers and volunteering at a variety of events which makes this specific course engaging and interactive.Course overviewThe events industry is considered one of the most valued industries in ‘our’ world today. We say ‘our world’ as every event, technology advancement and choice of medium we use to communicate shapes the society we live in and this course is a way to be directly involved in your own future, but you do not need us to convince you. Just think of a time when you were at or viewed an event. An event that could have helped to shape your or another person’s life; it could be a wedding, a work gathering or something as grand as the Love island live final. A large variety of these events has been documented or formed a part of our history which is one of the many reasons why it is such a live and increasingly important industry to be a part of. Events Management does not limit you to just planning or organising everyday events, it is also the stepping stone to a possible career in mass organised and communicated affairs such as: large sporting events, Reality TV show spin offs, Celebrity functions, PR Events for celebrities, Talent shows across the world or even Royal events and so much more. You may be thinking: ‘Why study Event Management now?’ Employers are looking for University graduates more than ever as jobs become more competitive every year, and this foundation degree in Events Management will not only open many doors in this dynamic industry but also develops many useful transferable skills that you will use throughout your life. This Foundation Degree is a Level 5 vocational qualification, which will allow you to gain knowledge and confidence in Events Management to enable you to seek employment in this vibrant industry or continue the course to complete an honours degree. It is equivalent to the first and second year of an honours degree therefore it will not only enrich your knowledge but will also prepare you to take your first steps into your career. A foundation degree involves a combination of academic and vocational studies in higher education equivalent to two thirds of an honours bachelor’s degree. On successful completion of the taught and placement elements, there are opportunities for progression on to a full BA (Hons) Events Management degree at the University of West London.
