Course summary
Designed by experienced event managers to provide the essential range of theory and practical skills you will need to plan and execute fantastic events, and launch a great career in the fast-growing event management sector. The course offers more than a great qualification – by the time you graduate you also have a strong CV and a varied network of industry contacts that will serve you well in the future. Our practical approach means you will be responsible for producing and managing events throughout your time at Solent, with these event projects firmly embedded in the curriculum. And our in-house event management agency, Solent Works, is entirely student led – providing you with opportunities to build a portfolio of real-world work experience that potential employers will find attractive. You will also have the chance to meet a range of industry practitioners, thanks to the course’s strong ties to the wider industry – many will be guest speakers in your lectures and workshops, while networking opportunities and site visits will broaden your network of industry connections and potential employers even further. Combining theory, practical experience and the latest industry best practice, this essential course is a great step towards becoming that indispensable manager who is at the heart of every event. In 2019 students secured placements at festivals such as: Leeds, Reading, Download, Mela Southampton, Glastonbury and LiveNation amongst others.**What does this course lead to?**Event management gives you a range of skills that will make you ideal for the industry, flexible and highly mobile; able to work anywhere in the world at events as diverse as brand activations, wedding planning, e-sports and mega events. This course will also support a transition into the third sector, working with charities to raise money, or working for local councils, heritage and visitor sites who all seek to deliver events that will shape and inform their communities. The problem solving, project management and communication skills gained on this course can also be utilised to pursue a career in business management or customer service.Alternatively, you could consider becoming a freelance self-employed event manager or establishing your own event management agency as many of our alumni have done in the past.Whether you wish to join a large established event company in order to travel the world, support your community, work for a charity or work independently, this course will give you the strong foundations you need for a varied and creative career.**Who is this course for?**Solent’s event management degree is ideally suited for those interested in developing skills in event management and the underlying business. It will give you an insight into all aspects of managing events from creative design, planning, and delivery. You will also discover the context of events, what they are, why we attend them and how brands and businesses use them as part of their strategy. If you are looking for something that fuses theory and practice and provides the support and space to design your own events, then this is the course for you. There is no requirement to have previously studied festival or event management, but a desire to learn more and an interest in what goes on behind the scenes at an event is essential.
