Course summary
This course is based on the final year of our BSc (Honours) Events Management (Arts and Entertainment). It allows you to top up a HND, foundation degree or equivalent in a relevant subject to a honours degree level in Event Management.You will learn the specific skills to create, manage and deliver events within the arts and entertainment sector. This could include events in arts venues, live gigs, museums, cultural attractions and festivals. This course will give you an understanding of how events in this sector are strategically managed and funded from both a political and cultural perspective.SHEFFIELD BUSINESS SCHOOL ACCREDITATIONSheffield Business School is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), placing us in the top 5% of business schools globally.**How you learn**You will develop your skills through a combination of seminars and workshops, by attending lectures and by completing projects. Field trips, site visits and work with external organisations enhance your engagement and understanding of the complexities and challenges of operating in the international events industry particularly in the arts and entertainment sector.You learn through* live events* guest speakers* problem solving* exercises* case studies* individual and group presentations* directed learning activities**Applied learningLive projects**As part of this course, you will undertake a large real-world project worth 40 credits to deliver an arts and entertainment-based event here in Sheffield. You will have the autonomy to create, market and deliver the event, supported by experienced tutors.**Field trips & Industry Engagement**You have access to work experience opportunities across various event sectors (including the arts and entertainment sector) available from an online portal updated in real-time with roles ranging from local charity events to international festivals in Europe.Your modules will also feature arts and cultural visits in and around the region.**Networking opportunities**Our links with industry mean that you hear from a wide range of guest speakers. Previous guest speakers have included Martin Green of the London 2012 organising committee (LOCOG), Simon Graveling of Athens 2004, London 2012 and Sochi 2014; David Jamilly of Theme Traders, and Jon Hughes from KPMG.As a top up route there is no placement opportunity with this course, however there are still a number of applied learning indicatives you will have access to. On top of the Live Event module you will be using real-world case studies and examples in class.
