Course summary

Film:

Our Film degree promotes a balance between the practical and theoretical. You’ll explore everything from fiction to documentary, experimental film to world cinema, and television to the internet, as well as screenwriting, animation and cinematography.

Looking beyond the story, you’ll consider how meaning is created through film language and visual aesthetics. You'll broaden and deepen your critical awareness of the diverse formal and experiential possibilities of cinema, both as they have developed in the past, and as they are transforming in the contemporary moment.

Career opportunities

You could go on to work in film production, distribution or exhibitions, in a film festival organisation or in film research. The skills you gain are also transferable to advertising, PR and other media-related industries.

Our careers team is available to support you from the start of your studies until after you graduate. They will help you build your CV, prepare for interviews, and meet and learn from successful graduates working at the top of their careers. You'll also have opportunities to work with our partners across London and beyond and attend a Roehampton jobs fair where you can find out about graduate opportunities and meet employers.

Drama, Theatre and Performance Studies:

This degree provides you with a breadth of understanding of theatre and performance around the world, a heightened socio-political awareness, a thorough grounding in rigorous approaches to performance-making and writing, and a lifelong, critically informed appreciation and enjoyment of theatrical performance.

To enrich your learning, your course includes tickets to a range of theatre productions, as well as trips to exhibitions and other cultural events. You will visit some of London’s most well-known theatres, seeing a variety of high-profile shows, thought-provoking plays and cutting-edge performance events.

Career options

You will be well equipped to pursue a career in theatre, arts management, playwriting, arts journalism, casting, stage management, scenic, lighting or sound design, events management, and leisure and tourism.

You could also go on to a master’s degree in theatre or postgraduate training in teaching or dramatherapy.
