Course summary

This BA degree is for people who want to write, produce and direct their own creative short films and develop their practical production skills by crewing for other students. Our multi-award-winning vocational film production course will provide you with the skills and expertise to succeed in the film and media industry, pursuing careers such as film director, producer, cinematographer, sound recordist and editor. One of the UK’s leading practical film production courses, it is accredited by Creative Skillset - the industry kitemark of quality - and has been approved by the British Kinematograph, Sound and Television Society (BKSTS). We are members of the National Association for Higher Education in the Moving Image (NAHEMI). Join us and you’ll learn how to research, develop, write, produce, direct, shoot, edit and promote your own creative portfolio of short films. You’ll also develop professional skills in areas such as camera operation, sound recording, art direction, and editing, sound design and post production. If you are creative, driven and hardworking – and dream of working for companies such as Warner Bros, Universal Pictures, BBC, ITV, Double Negative, Disney and Endemol, on productions such as Baby Driver, Dunkirk, James Bond, This is England or Hollyoaks – this course could be for you. Each year, you'll complete a period of work experience to develop your knowledge and understanding of professional practice. Many of our students make contacts for future employment during these placements. You'll enrich your academic and practical studies by attending field trips to art galleries, film screenings and leading film festivals - in the UK and abroad. You'll also visit some of the UK's leading production facilities and attend residential trips to shoot films on location. You'll have access to industry leading film production equipment and you'll spend the majority of your time working in our professional film production studio and post-production facilities. This course is recognised by Creative Skillset, Sector Skills Council and carries the Creative Skillset Tick for the purposes of indicating courses best suited to prepare for a Creative Industries career. To develop your knowledge and understanding of professional practice, every year, you’ll have the opportunity to complete a period of professional work experience. This is also a great opportunity to make valuable contacts for future employment. To enrich your academic and practical studies there will be field trips to art galleries, film screenings and leading film festivals in the UK and abroad. You’ll also visit some of the UK’s leading production facilities and attend residential trips to shoot films on location. You’ll find graduates from our Media (Film) Production degree working in the film and television production industry around the world – from Hollywood to New Zealand. They work in a broad variety of production roles, including directors, producers, scriptwriters, cinematographers, production designers, camera operators, sound designers, editors and special effects artists.
