Our BSc Finance aims to equip you with the skills necessary for a successful career in the financial services industry, economic consultancy, government departments or in regulatory agencies. You will be well placed to pursue postgraduate studies in finance. The course offers rigorous training in all areas of finance, with a focus on the quantitative skills that are required in every aspect of academic and private sector finance today. Through your choice of optional units you can gain exposure to the related fields of economics, accounting and management. The course is designed by researchers who have industry or regulatory experience. It is among the first courses in the UK to contain coverage of new and disruptive forms of finance at undergraduate level, including cryptocurrencies, FinTech, digital finance (Big Data), smart beta investing, peer-to-peer lending, and high-frequency trading.Concepts and theories are related to financial practice through the use of specialist industry newspapers, including the Dow Jones Financial News and data vendors, such as Bloomberg and Thomson Reuters. The first year of study will consider finance in a mostly non-technical way, while providing training in the quantitative subjects that later units will build upon. You will also study accounting and economics. In the second year you will deepen your understanding of the theory, evidence and statistical methods relevant to the market and corporate areas of finance. You will gain significant exposure to the extremely diverse data used in all aspects of financial decision making in a professional context through a dedicated course. You will also be able to further your understanding of economics and accounting, building on first-year courses or you may develop your understanding of business law and management according to your preferences and career ambitions. The final year features a mix of core and optional units in finance and options in economics, accounting and management, allowing you to pursue your professional goals. An innovative Digital Finance course will provide insights into new and disruptive forms of capital raising, trading and new assets and investment strategies.
