Course summary
This programme provides a rigorous understanding of the principles of mathematical and economic models along with the practical tools used by financial institutions today.
The MSc Financial Mathematics is delivered jointly by the Institute of Pure and Applied Mathematics (IPAM) and the Business School and is aimed at numerate students from a broad range of backgrounds who wish to work in the finance industry.
The combination of mathematics and business courses provides our graduates with a rigorous understanding of the mathematical and economic models used in finance today, as well as the practical knowledge to apply their skills and knowledge to solve real-world finance problems.
Careers
- Studying Financial Mathematics equips you with the highly sought after problem-solving and decision-making needed in the financial services industry and beyond.
- Banks, insurance companies, wealth management companies and brokerage firms all require highly numerate graduates who can analyse data, build forecast models and predict financial trends.
- In addition to careers in finance, graduates may find jobs in a variety of other sectors where mathematical skills are in demand, including government, marketing or science.
- Many Financial Mathematics graduates also go on to pursue PhDs, including in the UK and USA.
