In choosing to study this degree in Financial Mathematics you'll uncover a fascinating and challenging discipline. Mathematics is fundamentally important to modern society, particularly in its contribution to the financial world.
The Department of Mathematics and Aberystwyth Business School established courses in Financial Mathematics in response to the increasing demand from employers in the financial sector for graduates with an understanding of mathematics.
This scheme's integrated foundation year is an opportunity for prospective students who may not have the relevant academic background to acquire a solid foundation in mathematical and financial theory to continue on to an honours course in Financial Mathematics.
The mathematical core of the degree will teach you key skills in algebra, calculus and statistics and you will gain a solid understanding of the principles of economics and of financial accounting and management from the Business School. In addition, you will study mathematics in a financial context, for example in stochastic modelling of the stock market.
- Explore a discipline that is both intellectually demanding and vocationally useful, giving you skills that are applicable to a wide range of career choices in the financial industry
- This scheme is aimed at those who lack the adequate entry qualifications in mathematics and covers the essential mathematics and finance to allow students to continue on to an honours degree

This ensures your study is grounded in a proper professional context. Many members of staff are also active researchers, able to introduce you to the boundaries of knowledge in their fields

QUALIFICATION TYPE
GCSE/National 4/National 5 : A minimum grade C or grade 4 pass in GCSE (or equivalent) English or Welsh is a requirement for entry to all our degree schemes. Level 3 KS/FS Communication may be acceptable in lieu of GCSE English or Welsh. For this degree scheme minimum grade C or grade 4 pass in GCSE (or equivalent) Mathematics is also required. GCSE Mathematics-Numeracy is acceptable in lieu of GCSE Mathematics.
